I wanted to bring up the idea of adding a arbitration tag, my idea is every team has an option of using a prospect tag or arbitration tag on expiring PP players. The arbitration tag is a 3 year deal 27M first year 8M second year 9M and 3rd year 10m. I just wanted to see what you guys thought

I know you had mentioned this in the past. My random thoughts:
* Prospect tag is $3M, $5M. Aren't we duplicating efforts by also adding a tag that gives $8M, $9M, $10M?
* If we had both, could a manager prospect tag then two years later apply the arb tag? If so, then I'm against; player depth is low enough as it is. It's good to get players back into the available pool.

I meant it as an alternative to the prospect tag. So if a team really likes a PP player with an expiring contract you can keep them for 3 years at a higher price if not go for the prospect tag which is a lower price at two years. I also think that you can only get one per offseason out of the prospect and arbitration tag.

I agree with both Shawn & Ron. I don't see the need for this at this time

I'd definitely want a limiter such as "once you use one on a player, you can't also use the other later," which requires extra documentation on the admin end. And we'd still be adding an extra year to contracts, keeping a few more players out of the pool.
I'm obviously looking at the potential negatives. What benefits do you envision to the league with such a tag?
