"You must offer a one-year signing bonus. If you have the highest offer, you win the player, who can be kept for that year on the signing bonus amount. The following year, that player automatically receives the remainder of their "real life" contract, as outlined on the Cot's Baseball Contracts website."
Just want to point out that by cutting Kim in the "signing bonus" year, you're technically not on the hook for the "real life" contract, at least according to our rules.
As for relief, cutting a signing bonus player is unprecedented. That said, we never had the need to declare whether a signing bonus is just like a contract year, allowing the dropping manager pay only half the signing bonus. Assuming we treat it that way, then you owe $6.95M this year only. ($16M sb - $2.1M sb / 2)

The new owner is on the hook for the full amount of the real life contract just as Jason was. Since it is the same amount I think Jason is off the hook for 2017 and beyond.
