Posted trade: Braves send Adrian Nieto (MIA) $400K pp To the Red Sox for SP: Erick Fedde (WAS) $400K pp SP: Mayky Perez (SD) $400K pp ----- Nieto is a 26-year-old scrub catcher recently signed to a minor league deal after posting a .207/.344/.316 line in AA Birmingham. Perez isn't all that, but Fedde is definitely considered by some entities to be a top-50 starting pitching prospect. Yes, he is coming back from TJS, but BaseballHQ.com is ranking him #42 among SP prospects. According to this article Fedde is "the No. 4 Nats prospect in Baseball America's organizational top 10." I'm calling foul on this. The Red Sox need to be getting more than a scrub catcher.

I really don't like vetoing trades involving only minor league players. We don't know how any of these guys will pan out (if any of them will even pan out). I wouldn't veto a deal like this, regardless of how the Red Sox/Braves value the prospects. Everything regarding prospects is subjective until we see them get called up.

I generally don't like vetoing most trades in general, and I agree that valuations of MiLB talent can be across the board. (I'm guilty of overvaluing some players.) But where do we draw the line? If we allow it, so be it. But my confidence in the new Red Sox manager will be diminished.
Edit: As an aside, I just want to look out for these teams we've struggled to keep managers with.

In my discussions with him before we made our trade he seemed quite knowledgeable. Bit of a Red Sox homer but that is not a sin. Jared thought enough of him to recommend him to our league. Do we really make a big deal out of a minor deal like this? Take a chance of not having a Sox owner? Let the guy do his thing. This deal does not alter the competitive balance of the league. I am ok with it.

I agree with Ron. Its a minor deal no point stirring up the old veto pot for it.

Fair enough. I think the Sox are getting cheated, but I'll again freely admit that I have strange valuations on players.

I hate a team with little talent trading it away for way way less. I'll say pass but keep an eye on him

Yea I am with Redsox in another league, and he's seemed fairly knowledgeable based on our discussions and the deals he's made. This is a real head scratcher. But I think I agree with you guys. The best player is a guy with class A expereience coming off Tommy John. Could go 100 different directions. Certainly wouldn't do it, but think we let it go, and monitor him moving forward.
