What reliable sources have Pompey rated a top 50 prospect? BA has him rated #4 on a bottom 3rd rated farm system as rated by Scouting Book. They have him rated as #70. I am always looking for additional sources to rate prospects and would appreciate the help.

He was a no name prospect going into the season and was a quick riser. Sickeks had him from unranked and graded a C to all the way to number 63 at midseason.

So we are talking about a personal evaluation based on a mid season grade of one source plus a bump for a good 2nd half? He/they may be basing their evaluations on 2014 rankings which have changed substantially as you suggest. I have provided a source that I think more properly reflects his status as the #70 overall prospect rather than a "gut feeling" #50. The issue I have is that there are those evaluating this trade on their personal valuations rather than a source that does this full-time. We all have had trades shot down during the past season. This shows our valuations may be faulty also. Acting as if we are experts and stating emphatically that he is a top 50 without any hard proof from a respected source is wrong. I would like to see what Baseball America rates him. My guess is somewhere between 51 and 70. I suggest we have plenty of time between now and the beginning of the season, let's wait to see how the experts rank these players before making a decision. It is easier to do evaluations of MLB talent. MILB talent is much more difficult.

The experts already have spoken baseball american is externally high on him. Do need scouting reports? Tonkins is a relief pitch who won't be in him teams top 20 prospects. He was I'm there too 30 last year but had a bad season and has fallen out. Yarbrough is a solid mid leve guy who BA said his plate disapline is his best tool. The you have a late second. Baseball America just had him ranked top 5 prospects in te Arizona fall league

The second round pick has more value than you are giving credit for. Let's call it a 3rd round pick because it is way down but that is higher than any of these guys were drafted. Pompey was drafted in the 16th round. You also have pointed out that Tonkin and Yarborough have some value. I understand Pompey has exploded over the past year or so. He's trending up and will get his opportunity this year but he is not a lock to be a star or even an every day starter. Tonkin pitched pretty well at the MLB level in limited time the past two years. Last year he had two poor outings and was very solid the rest of the year. I just don't think the trade is as bad as you are making it out to be. I don't believe it should be vetoed. The Braves get the best player, with more upside, clearly, but I don't believe the other side of the trade is table scraps or garbage.

To me a late second mid leve guys with low upside isn't worth a top 50 prospect. So it's still a veto to me
