I admitted I overpaid in the trade thread, but I don't care. Meadows and Dom Smith are far away and I've had plenty of draft busts before. I was pissed that I didn't get Mookie Betts when he was my main draft target...it was my fault i didn't take him at #21. Did I overpay? Of course...but you need to take risks while rebuilding.

I agree I was waiting to see if anyone else said anything. Even if Mookie works out I think that would be a bit much. They say his upside is about 20-20 player which is valuable but to overpay this much seem to be a streach.

Are you suggesting you think this trade is vetoable? Prospects are completely random comodities. Think of them as a lottery ticket. I didn't want to wait for Austin Meadows/Dominic Smith who are high school players who are far away and traded away 2 picks that could turn out to be busts (I took 4 busts in the first round in 2010). I'd take my chances with a prospect who I've seen has incredible patience, and impressive tools across the board...plus he's much closer to the big leagues (may even get a shot later this year).
I've said from the start I understand that the trade was an overpay but with the amount of prospects and picks I have, I feel like I can afford to make that overpay, whether you think the trade was smart or not.

Maybe if you were a player away but you can't even field a team even if betts plays. So I don't really see how trading a boatload for a player that is close to the majors helps. You have a few good guys to build around but aren't close to competing yet. Plus for that package you could get a super star player not as you out it random commodity.

I have plenty of money to get a really good player through free agency without having to give up any prospects. I don't post your trades in here when I think you made a dumb trade where you send away your superstars for prospects every single year, I think I can handle my rebuild without you and Nick telling me I'm doing it wrong.

So your special and we don't need a trp to look at bad trade. if the redsox guy made this trade you'd be crying like you were when ever he made a trade. The whole thing about my team would make sense if I wasn't in contention every year. By the look of both our teams I'd take mine all day because I make the playoffs every year you barley have a team. Second this isn't personal and has nothing to do with you it could be any two teams. Lastly even if you sign a free agent your still not close to competteing. So why don't you be an adult and not make it personal and let other people speak. If you speak try talking about your trade not then nonsense about my team which clearly you have no room to talk.

What I don't understand is why you think this trade is a veto (assuming by your comments what you are insisting). Whether you think I "could have gotten more" or "gave up too much" does that even matter? I feel like I'm getting by far the best asset in the deal in Mookie Betts who since this trade got posted in here was promoted to triple a. 2 high school prospects who are probably 3-5 years away and 2 unknown quantities in picks could wind up making this trade look like a steal on my side in a few years...you never know.
I'm just struggling to see what makes this trade vetoable.

A top 3 pick (3 at worst) in a draft should be considered an unknown quantity?

In 2009 the #2 pick Dustin Ackley and #3 pick Justin Turner really turned into studs right? I'm not saying that you won't get a good player at #3 but a prospect doesn't insure anything...I drafted 4 busts with my 4 first round picks in 2009 all before pick 19.

Everything has a value and a top 3 pick is very valuable even with your bad drafting. I never said it wanted to veto but, I do want to hear others opinions before I make up my mind.

So I have been waiting for the TRP process to play it self out with this trade before I approved/voided it but it never materialized, so I approved the trade. The trade was posted a week ago and this chat was started just over four days ago, with several TRP members and admin members logging in during that time and not responding, I decided enough time had past. I'm not exactly sure how much time is appropriate to have the open discussion but by the rules trades are generally processed within 24hrs of posting and I let this trade sit for a week.

I know when I saw it days ago I thought Rockies overpaid, but at no point did I think it was veto-worthy.
