No, for this year the SB is that players 2014 salary and then the team giving that signing bonus picks up that players remaining real-life contract. We put this in place so players would not have the huge contracts like Chapman, Darvish and Cespedes received when they were signed in FA.

I don't have anything to do with MLBPA and the system. However, I wish we'd do away with allowing priority lists in total. I personally find it a bit ridiculous; if you're willing to place a bid on a player, you should accept the consequences of winning that player, even if it means you go over budget, etc. Just keep it a simple "highest AAS bid wins." I know that's not a popular sentiment, however.

We've used priority list since the beginning, and they have worked well every year. There's no need to change a system that has worked for 5 years. The only suggestion I would make is to either separate, or make a special note of which IFAs need signing bonuses when they are posted. There is too much confusion when you are mixing MLB bids, with signing bonuses being mixed in with regular bids and PP bids. I know I messed up 4 or 5 bids because of it, and would have won a few players on AAS alone. So that part just needs cleaned up, or we need to add an extra week for the IFAs specifically, just to eliminate confusion. My $.02
