RULES FOR OWNERS MATCHING:

Here are the guidelines for the tag holder on deciding the years of the contract.

If AAS <= $3M, 1 - 6 years.
If the offer is 400k - 749k you can only keep them for a maximum of 3 years at this salary, but you have the option to raise it to 750k and keep them 4-6 years
If AAS > $3M, 2 - 6 years
If AAS > $6M, 2 - 6 years
If AAS > $9M, 3 - 6 years
If AAS > $12M, 3 - 6 years
If AAS > $15M, 4 - 6 years

Now if no one offers a bid on an RFA, the tag holder can choose either to keep them 1-3 years on a 400k salary, or 4-6 years on a 750k salary.

According to league records, the RFA of Josh Tomlin is invalid. Tomlin is still on a contract and was not an eligible player for RFA. Not sure what happened here.

1. In April 2011 the Brewers won Tomlin and signed him to a four-year contract, as seen here.

2. In February 2012 the Brewers traded Tomlin and others to the Athletics. The contract for Tomlin at that time was still 12: $4.0M; 13: $4.0M; 14: $6.0M. Here's the trade.

Therefore, Tomlin was still under contract at the end of 2012, with a contract remaining of 13: $4.0M and 14: $6.0M. I'm leaving that as it already is on the spreadsheet. Matt should update his team page to reflect this.
