I mentioned this awhile ago and a couple of people thought it might be a good deal.
Do we want to award each year's champion with some kind of prize?
Examples might include a 5M increase in cap or another franchise tag. Or it could be something physical like t-shirt(I know kinda gay) or $.
Just a thought, my vote would be to add cap space but what do you all thaink?

my suggestion if it is decided that we do want to some type of prize is this...how about something like the Stanley Cup, something that the league winner gets to have for a year for bragging rights, and then gets shipped to the next years league winner. it would only cost us all a couple of bucks extra to pucrhase and ship some type of trophy. that is my suggestion

I like both ideas, but I actually find jay's very intriguing. What if we gave the choice between 5M increase or an additional option of their choosing? Here is the catch though, this only lasts for one year...this way it gives the winner some incentive, but it also isnt a permenant advantage.
Thoughts?

the only reason that i may not want salary or an extra tag to be given away is this, you would be giving it to the "best" team. and i always feel that teams on the lower end of the quality level should be given ample opportunity to improve their team, and not vice versa. just my opinion

I like that idea Collin, you wouldn't want to let teams keep franchise tags bc if 1 team wins a couple times then they could just keep all of their talent.
Jaden, we do have the 1st year player draft that would be non-serpintine to help the lessor teams get good young talent.

I agree with the sense of helping the lower teams not the best, but don't forget how much revenue those playoff games and world series wins brings to the teams. It would be a similar situation I guess.
I like both ideas. Not sure which I like better. A stanley cup type thing would be pretty cool.

You know, we could do the trophy and the tag prizes...i think the traveling trophy would be sweet, and I think the tag (lasting only a year) makes sense, because as jared said the pennant winner gets huge revenue spikes the next season every single time

Guys, we should decide on the tag thing before FA gets going, just so all the rules are in place and people dont think that we are making things up to help the TRP (some of the best teams belong to TRP members...it could easily look that way).
Personally, i say the one year additional tag for the winner would be a great option. It gives the winner a slight advantage (like real life revenue increases would) without helping the best teams to a point that it hinders the ability of others to catch up

i can work with this as an award to the league winner each year. my vote is to give them a choice of either another "tag", or a 1 year raise in their salary cap of a predetermined amount. and yes i agree we should decide quickly

I like the option. Some guys may only have 2 expiring contracts with 3 tags already so it wouldn't be as great of a deal. Others might have 4 contracts expiring with only 2 tags. So I think a choice would be good because both can be valued differently based on who wins.

Sounds good...all that is left is to decide how much of a salary increase people could receive...i would say somewhere between 5 and 10M would probably make the most sense...maybe compromise and say 7?

How would the tag work? Is it a one year tag? Does it work for that season or the next season?

Jordan, this tag would be for the winner of the championship, and it would be a one year thing. So if you won this season, you could use the additional tag/cap space for the 2009 season. I think this is a reasonable compensation for winning...it more closely mirrors how winning a title in real life affects the workings of a club.

Here is my problem with that. Trade deadline occurs before playoffs. Most people have traded their team to fit the tags they have for that season. After season a player can't be traded unless they have a tag or a contract. So you can't really acquire someone to use the tag on unless you already have the player.

Jordan, thats why we have the choice between cash incentive (increasing your cap by some number...i suggested 7M) or the tag. And also, since you CAN use franchise tags on players before their contract expires, this would still apply to most (like I could use mine on pedroia this year if i wanted...obviously i wont, but its completely possibly)

should we maybe just post the tag thing to the league, while we then decide on the rest? This could impact the strategies of some, plus its just nice to know in advance

I have a question I know I can get an extra tag after winning the WS so my question is do I have to use that tag this year or could I save it for another season? Also could I make it another prospect tag if I'm using a prospect tag in the same offseason? I note there was a brief discussion about this back in '09, and there was a concern about the tag being good only for the same year. Any additional thoughts on this for Anton?

I know in the past there was a $5M payroll bump. I don't know if this was an option in the past. I have no problem with the extra tag if that is in the rules but I do not think it can be made into a prospect tag. The rules state one prospect tag per team. So I would have an issue with that.

I kind of figured on the prospect tag but my main question was wether I could save it for another season or it had to be used this season?

I kind of figured on the prospect tag but my main question was wether I could save it for another season or it had to be used this season? Not being the rules guru I am not sure this is even covered. I can see where as the champion of the league you would prefer to get something of value. I am not sure of how to track the non-use of the tag or how far in the future do we let it extend. Or do we say $5M cap or one FT for this year? I am open to suggestions. Jared and Jason as past winners you probably know more about this than I do. What is your opinion? Sorry this was supposed to be a quote not an edit of Anton's post. (Ron)

Last few winners always took the $5M. I'm against giving a team another prospect tag or allowing a tag to be carried over.
